What to know about Zed AI
Zed is a code editor with AI and agent capabilities alongside ordinary editing features. Evaluate navigation, proposed changes and model configuration in the actual project context.
Who this guidance is for
Developers who can inspect changes in a disposable project and verify the resulting behaviour.
A practical test for Zed AI
This is a suggested evaluation exercise, not a report of a completed test. Use it to gather your own evidence before choosing a tool.
Provider page reviewed on 21 September 2026. The exercise below is an editorial suggestion, not a completed hands-on test.
Sample task
Open a small test repository and ask an agent to explain a request's path through three files before changing one validation rule.
What to inspect
Verify file references and then inspect the resulting diff for unrelated edits. Run the request with both accepted and rejected inputs.
How to decide
Keep the workflow if understanding and reviewing the change feels simpler than doing the same task in your current editor.
Official sources
Check Zed AI's official product information for current status, features, limits and terms.
Evaluate it for your workflow
Try a representative task with non-sensitive sample inputs. Record errors, revision time and whether the output exports correctly. Compare the full workflow against your current method before committing to a plan. Use our evaluation worksheet to record the result.
