What to know before trying Kiro
Kiro is an AWS-operated AI development product that organises work into requirements, design and implementation tasks. Its product documentation describes specifications and coding workflows; its pricing page lists a limited free tier and paid credit-based plans. Supported models and paid access can vary by region.
Who this exercise is for
Developers who want to check requirements before an assistant starts implementing them.
A practical test for Kiro
This is a suggested evaluation exercise, not a report of a completed test. Use it to gather your own evidence before choosing a tool.
Product information checked on 20 September 2026. Features and plan availability can change.
Sample task
Specify a fictional room-booking function: bookings cannot overlap, adjacent bookings are allowed, and end time must be after start time. Ask for requirements and a design first. Deliberately leave time-zone handling unspecified and see whether it is raised before coding.
What to inspect
Compare generated requirements with your original rules. Test identical intervals, adjacent intervals, containment and reversed times. Inspect both code and tests; passing tests are weak evidence if they repeat the same incorrect interpretation of overlap.
How to decide
Choose based on how well the specification exposes uncertainty and supports review. Track the credits used by planning and implementation as well as correction time. Keep a human-approved specification as the basis for accepting the result.
Official sources
Check Kiro's official product information for current features, limits and terms.
Evaluate it for your workflow
Try a representative task with non-sensitive sample inputs. Record errors, revision time and whether the output exports correctly. Compare the full workflow against your current method before committing to a plan. Use our evaluation worksheet to record the result.
